WordPerfect Styles Defined
An excellent article on styles! The different types of styles are defined, you learn how to move styles between documents and you learn how to edit the DocumentStyle, which is the system style that provides the basis for all other styles. Author: John S. Ro binson, University of York Computing Service.
Creating Templates
To create a template from an existing document, in a blank document, choose File, New from Project. Choose Options, Create WP Template. Choose Insert, File, then select the file you want to use. Strip out the variable information and make the necessary revisions. Click the Close button, then choose Yes to save the template. Type a description and a file name. Select the category where you want the template stored, then choose OK.
To create a template based on an existing template, choose File, New from Project, select the base template. Choose Options, Edit WP Template. Make the necessary revisions. Choose File, Save As, type a description and a file name. Select the category where you want the template stored, then choose OK. Note: the steps given here are for WP9, but you should have enough information to do this in another version.
Jim Shackelford's Template Tutorial
Jim wrote an excellent overview of creating and using templates. Although written for WP8, the steps are essentially the same in WP7, 9, 10, and 11.
Creating a Monthly Calendar in WP8/9/10/11
These directions were thoughtfully provided by Dana Ciardi in response to a question on the WPWin Listserv.
- Choose File, New From Project.
- If the top box shows [WordPerfect], skip to the next step. Otherwise, click the drop-down list arrow and scroll through the list to select the one for your version.
- In the lower box, double-click Calendar, Monthly. If you get the PerfectScript confirmation box that asks you if you want to disable macros, choose No.
- Whenever the Calendar Information dialog box appears, select the month and year you want to start with and the number of months you want to create, then click Finish.
- If you want to customize the calendar, click the buttons in the PerfectExpert pane on the left and choose from the list of options. To just print what you have, click Finish, Print.
Changing Personal Information
The first time you use a PerfectExpert project, you're prompted to enter personal information that is then used to fill in certain fields in the templates that come with WordPerfect. You may have entered bogus information just to get past the prompts, or at some point you may want to change the personal information you entered. To change the personal information, choose File, New from Project. Click Options, Personal Information. Select a new address book entry with the information that you want to use. Note: you may have to create an address book entry with the information if you haven't already.
Modifying the Pleading Template for California Rulings
Article 204281 on the knowledge base gives the steps to edit the pleading template for the revised formatting required by the California Rules of Court. See this thread on WordPerfect Universe for more information.
Downloading and Installing WordPerfect Templates
A full set of WordPerfect templates is available on Corel's FTP site and from the Officecommunity.com site. Both sites list the files individually so you can download only the templates that you need. The FTP site has a Zip file that contains the whole set: wp 10 temp.zip. Save the downloaded files to the folder indicated in Tools, Settings, Files, Templates, Default Template Folder. These templates were designed for WordPerfect 10, but they’ll work just fine in WordPerfect 11, 12, and X3.
