Creating Monthly and Yearly Calendars

You may recall using a calendar macro in early versions of WordPerfect that would generate a yearly calendar, on one page. I know I do and I’ve missed it ever since. Barry MacDonnell has thoughtfully written an excellent macro that will do just that. The was updated to allow you to create a monthly calendar with the current month centered on the page and two smaller monthly calendars (previous month and next month) on either side. Barry’s calendar macros can be downloaded here.

Corel inadvertently introduced a problem with macro tokens with SP1. You have to recompile the template macros or the templates won't work correctly. Charles Rossiter has graciously done this and made the recompiled templates available here on the Corel Newsgroup WordPerfect FAQ newsgroup.

Adding Macros to the Menu Bar

A rticle 9797 explains how to add your favorite macros to the menu.

How to Exceed the Merge Field Limit of 255 Characters

If you enter data into your merge fields via a dialog box, you won't be able to type more than 255 characters into a merge field. You can exceed this limit by closing the dialog  boxes and editing the data file directly. From article 201749 on Corel's KB.

Sorting a List by the Last Name

From TipWorld : What if you typed a whole list of names in first-middle-last name order only to realize later that you need to arrange the list alphabetically by the last name. WordPerfect can handle this easily with the right sort settings. Choose Tools, Sort. Choose First Word in a Line (or First Cell in a Table if you typed your list in a table),  then click Edit. Choose the Type, Sort Order and Field options as you would normally, but in the Word text box, type -1. Click OK. WordPerfect will start the sort with the last word in the line, which is exactly what you need.

Saving a Custom Sort

From TipWorld: If you perform the same sort over and over again, you can create a custom sort and save it for future use. All you have to do is name the sort the next time you create it. Choose Tools, Sort, then choose New. Name the custom sort in the Sort Description text box, then select which category you want to sort by. Set up the rest of the sort as you normally would, then click OK. Notice that your new custom sort now  appears in the Sort By list. Now all you have to do is select it and choose Sort.

Exporting CorelCENTRAL Information to a Merge Data File

You can export information in any card file to WP data file format and then use that data file in a merge. Open the card file in CorelCENTRAL. Choose File, Export, WP  Merge then name the file. You should get a message telling you that the export is successful. Open the new data file in WP. Click the Go To Form button on the toolbar then use the Insert Field button to insert the fields from the card file into the form document. When you're finished creating the form file, click the Merge button to merge.

Creating Typographic Spaces in WP by Lindsay Rollo

WP does not provide for typographic spaces, that is, fixed spaces of various widths  that are proportional to the base font size. A .TTF font for creating fixed spaces, explanatory notes and examples about the uses for typographic spaces in general  documents, but particularly for compliance with ISO standards and academic publishing standards in scientific, technical and professional journals, reports and publications, can be found in a self-extracting file called TYPSPACE.EXE in Lindsay's section of Barry MacDonnell's Other Authors page.

How to AppExecute a DOS Program in a Window Instead of Full Screen

Article 16906 explains how to use the AppExecute macro command to execute a DOS program in a window rather than a full screen.
