Upgrading and Transition Issues
There are two very comprehensive resources for upgrading in FAQs on WordPerfect Universe. They are both updated immediately with the most current information. You just can't find better resources than these:
Corel's Migration Manager can be downloaded from this FTP site. It can be used to backup and migrate important files from WP 6.1, 7, 8 and 9 into WordPerfect Office 2002. You have to check this out - we now have a tool for backing up customization files in 4 versions of WP. We've been asking for this for years!
Debra Earle, C-Tech on the Corel newsgroups created an FAQ that discusses transferring customization over from WP Suite 8 to WP Suite 2000. It is now available on her Web site here.
TID#15962 "What WordPerfect Files Are Changed by Customizing WordPerfect?" on Corel's Knowledge Base points out which WordPerfect 8 files are modified if you customize the program. If you want to transfer your customization to WordPerfect 9, but don't have enough disk space for both programs, you'll want to isolate these files before removing WordPerfect 8.
TID#203137 covers which files should be backed up before removing and reinstalling WordPerfect Office 2000.
TID#202299 explains how to preserve your customization when upgrading from WP8 to WP9. It's dated 3/8/00 so it's the most up-to-date document on this.
TID#201090 explains how to keep your Address Book 8 entries when installing WordPerfect Office 2000.
TID #12889 discusses transitioning from WPWin6.1 and WP7 to WP8.
TID #19098 talks about copying a custom WP7 dictionary to WP8.
TID #16296 shows you how to use WP5.1+ user dictionaries in WP7.
TID #2059 covers the conversion of WP6.1 supplementary dictionaries to WP7 (for Windows 9.x) user word lists.
TID #12809 discusses converting WP6.0 supplementary dictionaries to WP8 user word lists.
TID #12773 gives the steps for copying Abbreviations/QuickWords from WP6.1 and WP7 to WP8.
Extensive reply by Paul Merrell to a message on the WPWin-L listserv asking how to convert WP6.1 macros to WP8.
Karen Gibson's has two sites. Her first site, for WordPerfect Suite, has great articles on upgrading from 6.1 to 8.0 and from 7.0 to 8.0. Her second site, for WordPerfect Office 2000, will have information on upgrading from 7.0 to 9.0 and from 8.0 to 9.0.
Repair corrupted documents - Karen Gibson has a page on her site dedicated to getting your data out of a corrupted file.
Software by Seidman - excellent tools if you're upgrading from WP5.1 to later versions.
